Deafness - Sign Language Deaf Services


These services are for people who:

    live with severe or profound deafness, usually before speech training;
    communicate mainly or exclusively by signs (LSQ, natural gestures, etc.).

This auditory condition has consequences on their lifestyle, communication or social integration.
objectives

The services offered are intended to promote the development or maintenance:

    A functional and satisfactory communication;
    Autonomy in personal, school, professional, parental or leisure activities;
    Satisfactory interpersonal relationships.

Offered services

    Support for the development of communication skills and strategies
    Needs Assessment and Accommodation Recommendation for the Workplace and Home
    Teaching for the use of assistive listening devices and other technical means
    Support for families by promoting the development of parenting skills
    Supporting the person in their adaptation process
    Orientation towards the various network resources
    Awareness of the family, professional or social environment about the consequences of deafness and strategies to facilitate communication
    Communication support offered in collaboration with the CSSS Québec-Nord
    Collaboration with community organizations to promote social participation

These services are offered to the user according to an individualized approach. Interventions are made individually, in couple, family or group depending on the objective pursued. They are carried out in the different environments of the person: home, school, workplace, community associations, other network services and community.
A team of professionals

The services are provided by a team of professionals in various disciplines:

    audiology
    Special Education
    Community organization
    Speech Therapy
    Psychology
    Communication technique
    Social work

All of these workers are familiar with Quebec Sign Language (LSQ).
