deaf people How do deaf people think?

How do deaf people think?

Good Morning,

Everybody thinks in his preferred language. the DGS (German Sign Language) is in my eyes much faster than the spoken language.

But the whole thing has nothing to do with thinking speed.

As an example, I would like to offer you the reading of a book. Most people read this in their minds (that is, they wait until they have recited it inside and wait in the brain until the "inner voice" has parroted it), the thought process itself (but the seeing of the written is already completed at this time ,

So language is needed only for the transfer of knowledge and communication, but not for thinking itself. Therefore, this question as it is posed is incorrect.

Take longer, but does neither the communication in sign language nor thinking.

They think and feel exactly like others do.

If they have this from an early age, it is not unusual for them and they learn to read the words of fellow human beings from the mouth.

My niece is such a person and she has even been educated to become a deaf teacher.

She was also in the US and has undergone special training there, so she can also read English from the mouth.

When I talk to her and she can see my mouth, nobody would notice from the outside that she is deaf.

That's a good question, because they can not remember the way we do it, in voices and spoken things, in pitches, languages, accents. But they read from the lips, can read ... Our thoughts are usually a kind of soliloquy with pictures of memories. But I think that neither you nor I can understand that. And even a description will not help us there. There are things you do not have to understand (thank God / hopefully) all your life. Of course, it's something different again, to have heard something before and then to become deaf.

I would say that they also have that voice in mind when they became deaf later, so they could talk and hear. And if they had it from birth, then in pictures.

Deaf people think normal. My husband at least does it.

Sign language is simultaneous, which makes it faster than simply gesturing.
