deaf technology Technologies, translation devices sign language

Technologies, translation devices sign language

Here are some technologies that will certainly make life, communication and connections between deaf signers and hearing people easier (orating) in the future. Indeed, many of them are in prototype phase. Strongly that it is in force everywhere.

Once again, I do not advertise, my intention is just to make known what exists on the market.

TOP 5 TRANSLATION EQUIPMENT LSF LES PLUS BIZARRES:

1. A bracelet and rings to translate the sign language

bracelet rings rings

The principle seems simple: the person communicating in sign language wears a ring on each finger and an LSF translation wrist bracelet [see illustration]. These tools then transcribe simultaneously the signs in sound. The words of the interlocutor are transcribed in writing on the screen of the bracelet and the conversation would become fluid. This invention was born in Asia.

CAUTION: I do not agree with this passage from the article below (see links) "Understanding and speaking sign language is often difficult for people who do not suffer from deafness. But soon the relatives of deaf and / or dumb people will no longer need to learn sign language. Once again, new technologies are serving people with physical disabilities. "

Indeed, these technologies are welcome to allow the deaf to communicate with hearing people, who do not know sign language, do not rub shoulders with deaf people, so that they can cope in complex situations (traveling, banking, post, at the doctor, ...) Personally I do not see myself using this for life with a close signing, I prefer to learn sign language. Technology always has flaws!

2. My Voice, the device that translates sign language into sounds

MyVoice

In the same spirit, a group of students from the University of Houston, has developed a device called My voice, which can translate the sign language into sounds and vice versa. The camera holds in one hand. It includes a microphone, a speaker, a video camera and a screen. Using the video camera, the device detects hand movements to translate the sign language into sounds. He can also do the opposite by translating lyrics into sign language through on-screen display.

3. The nexus project (KIKAZARU glasses and IWAZARU bracelet)

GLASSES KIT

This project is mainly based on the improvement of smart glasses. These futuristic glasses capture the sounds as well as the movements of the lips to transcribe them in subtitles on the glasses. The wristbands capture the movements of the deaf person's signs and transmit through Bluetooth the direction to the speakers placed on the branches of these LSF translation glasses.
But ... who speaks to me in my glasses? Google is coming out of there!

4. Kinect Xbox E-system

kinect

In Asia again, on behalf of Microsoft Research, a project of recognition of body movements by the system of the famous Xbox game console. Kinect translates the sign language through a camera that tracks and records the movements of a person speaking in sign language. We speak of a precision such that all the subtleties of movements would be transcribed.

Less blah and more demo!

5. Enable Talk. Gloves that translate sign language into sounds

enable1 enable

Enable Talk is a Ukrainian project. The idea: a pair of connected gloves that a deaf user can wear to translate the sign language. Each glove incorporates many sensors, a controller and a Bluetooth transmitter. These sensors are activated instantly to send them via Bluetooth to the application installed on a smartphone. The movements are then translated into sounds.
My mittens to me are not so good, that's for sure!
